Lady MTG

Hi! My name is Greta, I’m 20 and I come from Italy :) I started playing Magic with M11 and the first official event I attended was Scars of Mirrodin Launch Party, which I enjoyed a lot! :D
I wanted to learn play long before M11, because I saw friends playing Magic, but then, thanks to my boyfriend, I finally learned this wonderful game.
I love the arts, the story, the way they put them in the game’s mechanics and, obviously, the game itself! <3

I’ve got two 4fun decks: an Elf B/G deck (I love my Elves!!) and a Spirit token U/W deck (Geist of Saint Traft…. <3):
And after these I’ve also got a Modern deck, which I hope to bring it to a tournament: A RDW (Red Deck Wins) Deck, as my love for Chandra told me!

I think this is all! ^^ Thanks for reading and following our blog!
Bye bye! :)

Introduction Post!

My name is Lauren, and I’m from Portland, Maine even though I currently live in Pennsylvania. I’ve been playing Magic since March of 2011. I didn’t start playing competitively until about September of the same year; now I FNM every week I can and consistently Top 8. I’m very competitive, so I keep up on all the latest decks in the formats that I play.

Speaking of, I play mostly Standard. I have 2 Modern decks as well but I’ve never played in a Modern tournament, much to my chagrin :< I also have a Kaalia of the Vast EDH deck that I love with all my heart.

I consider myself a control player - blue is my thing. My favorite deck I’ve ever run was a U/B control in standard a few months ago. I won FNMs with it and I really enjoyed how it forced me to think and make important decisions on the fly. Should I counter that or should I save it for something better? Should I destroy that? Should I tap out to play my win-con or wait? I like playing blue because it’s challenging.

My life is this game. On top of working with LadyMtG, I run my personal blog which has kind of morphed into a MtG themed blog and I run the infamous MtGFashions. I’ve been posting videos of my deck techs lately and hope to continue doing that.

I also cosplay Chandra! My armor was commissioned and it’s genuine, “battle-ready” plate armor. The chainmail is hand-knit and the faux-leather top is soon-to-be replaced by real leather. This costume is my pride and joy and until it’s perfect it’ll always be considered a work in progress! I’m also working on a Liliana of the Veil and have been considering attempting Tamiyo!

So yeah…before I start to ramble I’ll cut this off. I’ll try and stay active on this while also managing my other two blogs and managing schoolwork, so keep an eye out for future posts :)

Yay! Introduction post! Been meaning to do this for a while XD I am incredibly lacking in time.

Anyways, my name is Laura, and I am a Magic player from Scotland!

I started playing during shards of Alara and have been hooked ever since by the wonderful world of Magic the Gathering.
I love the story, the art the flavour and of course, the game :D
I am a MASSIVE collector. On top of those Planeswalkers, I also have Angels, Portal 3 Kingdoms and every card I can find that depicts artwork of a horse of some kind ;D

I can’t draw to save my life….but I adore altered art cards. A good friend of mine does beautiful ones, such as my Jenara, my current general for EDH.
Speaking of EDH I have also attached a picture of 5 cards which I think sum up my current EDH deck incredibly well. *Troll face*

Also I am cosplayer! I started a Chandra (manga version) cosplay which you can see….it involved mass wig dying to get the fiery look but I was really happy with it. Just need to find the time to finish the outift XD
I am also planning Innistrad Lilli and a Fem!Jace, which I am massively excited about :D

I think that’s it XD Thanks for reading!

Intro Post

Hi my name is Kim and I’m a 25 years old casual mtg player from Edmonton Alberta. I was about 11 when I first played mtg, my brother would test run his decks by playing against me before heading out to play with his friends at the card shop. We played standard for a bit (heavily into the Tempest block, still obsess with the Weatherlight storyline), and later on he would buy booster packs and we would do winston drafts once in awhile.

Unfortunately my bro moved out for college 2 years later and being 13 and unemployed my interest in mtg declined. It wasn’t till I was 16 and working at my first job at Dairy Queen where I met my future mtg playmates. Couple of my co-workers were into mtg along with their boyfriends and asked if I wanted to join them in a booster draft they play out around every payday. Suffice it to say I happily accepted their invitation and been casually drafting and playing mtg for the past 9 years.

After realizing the ridiculous amount of cards I’ve amassed from countless booster drafts over the years I decided to give standard and EDH a try which led me to the wonderful world of tumblr and LadyMTG. My favorite format will always be limited especially cube drafting, but it never hurts to go outside one’s comfort zone.

The picture above are some of the cards I’ve obtained during Mirrodin, the first set/block I’ve drafted with my co-workers. And I promise I will post more pictures of my collection. ;)

So, here’s my own little this-is-me thing- first up, middleangel and I are best friends, so yes, I did just poach my pictures from her. That’s me, the brunette next to her in the TARDIS shirt. She and I had a lot of fun playing together at that two headed giant. So my card collection is that giant tower of cards, shared with her, my husband, and my brother. Her boyfriend who recently got the Planeswalker symbol tattoo is my baby brother who lives with me.

My brother got us in to Magic originally, he’d been playing for some time, but only casually with my littlest brother, and he was bored with that. So, knowing how my husband enjoys things like that, he brought cards over and taught us to play. Two years and thousands of dollars later, here we are.

I’m a fairly competitive player, although not always as observant as I should be, so I still miss things, but I work at it. I love me some aggro, like hard freaking core. My first deck that I really seriously worked with was Zendikar mono black Vamps, and oh how I loved them. eventually I had it tuned so I ran Dark Tutleage with nothing in my deck over 3 mana. basically, vomit hand onto the table and bum rush you before you know what’s happening. I went in to mourning when Zendikar cycled out. Since then I’ve played mono white humans (fun) black white tokens, (sucked!) and currently red white humans which I love. Not as much as my vamps though. You better believe I’m psyched for some of the reprints in M13.

so yeah. that’s me.

Hi, I’m Marissa and here’s a brief(?) overview about my history with Magic:

I had gone to PAX in 2010, knowing very little about MtG and mostly going for the video games, discussion panels, and concerts. They gave us grab bags at registration that contained all sorts of promos and goodies, including a little mono-colored 30 card Planeswalker deck. A few weeks after returning home, I got roped into learning how to play. I learned with the 30 card mono-green/Garruk deck that I had gotten at PAX and eventually bought and added the green/red core set intro deck. I ended up taking out the red and basically played mono-green overrun.

After weeks of stomping my friends into the ground, I decided to try my deck out in a tournament - FNM at my wonderful local game store (that I stumbled into while looking for miniatures/paints/brushes for D&D). First round I was getting creatures out, feeling pretty good about myself (since my opponent was only playing land)…then I died to Valakut. I had no idea what was going on, but quickly discovered that there was so much more to the game than I had realized.

Since then I’ve gotten considerably better (not the best in our store by far, but I can hold my own as long as I don’t get careless). I mostly play standard now, but I also really enjoy draft, sealed, and my most favorite is two-headed giant. I also have a Doran, The Siege Tower EDH deck, but rarely play EDH anymore, and I play modern once in a great while (not a huge fan of broken combos).

For a long time I ran mono-white knights (after Student of Warfare and Knight Exemplar rotated out of standard, I threw in Æther Vial and a few other cards and it became my modern deck), after Innistrad came out I played UB zombies (actually had this exact deck made - minus the sideboard - and a few weeks later it won GP Lille) eventually changed to RB zombies, and now after Avacyn Restored have now settled on green/white humans (including Champion of LambholtMirran CrusaderHero of BladeholdSilverblade Paladin, and Sword of War and Peace - obviously not a human though).

I’m lucky enough to share a card pool with my boyfriend (pictured here beating up on Craig Wescoe in their featured match at the Salt Lake GP - he actually beat Wescoe!), his sister Jessica (also my best friend), and her husband. So between the four of us, we basically have a playset (sometimes two) of every card from Scars block forward - including full art Game Day promos, buy a box promos, most every kind of promo…>.>

We play FNM most every Friday (there are always at least two girls - Jessica and me - occasionally another will randomly drop in) , the guys generally always play in any PTQs or GPTs they can and went to the GP in Salt Lake in March, but I mostly just prefer to stick to the less-competitive FNM-esque type tournaments. We are planning to go to San Jose in October though, so I’ll likely post more about that the sooner it approaches. :)

Other than Magic, I am a huge fan of Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra, most video games with a good storyline (and occasionally a game of CoD zombies), painting Warhammer armies, D&D, board games, card games, and most everything else nerdy.

Anyhoo, it’s great to meet all of you and I’m super excited to be a part of this amazing blog!

Hello!
My name is Erin and I’m a magic player from Melbourne.
My tumblr is cloacina.tumblr.com, named after the goddess of sewers. I’m a plumber so if you start following expect tradie stuff as well as comics, magic, feminism, queer everything, nsfw, geekery in so many fandoms, terry pratchett, crafts and more about welding than you ever really wanted to know.
Magic infested my anime club 4 years ago and since then none of us have looked back. It has actually been a great reason to stay in touch with people after university ended.
Draft is my favourite format, I love all the wonderful ways it can go. Sealed is a close second. Innistrad and Dark Ascension have made me so very happy in that regard. I don’t have much room in my life for standard but sometimes I wonder how much of that is because I live with and love a Spike. I was so sick of playing against Jund after a year I gave the whole thing up. Pictures of Bloodbraid Elf still make me twitch. I want to get back in and have resolved to do so when M13 comes out.
I live with Erinna the last Aussie lass who introduced herself and my partner Thomas. Erinna and I are constantly having to negotiate who gets to play Magic on the Xbox. Thomas hides in his study and only comes out when the shouting turns to laughter. Our house is very much a magic place with at least 3 rooms infected by it. I am constantly finding cards in the oddest of places.
We go to FNM each week to draft and other weekend events that pop up. I love the midnight launch events. It’s winter here and on cold sunday nights we turn on the one heater in the house, plug my laptop into the big screen TV and draft together. I am hoping in the future to record the silliness and post it on the ladymtg youtube site for perpetuity.
Being asked what I like best about magic feels a little like being asked what superpower I would want to have. Only one? How can anyone pick just one? Can’t I have them all?
The cards, the art, the world building, the rules, the interactions, deck building, the people, the community, the tokens, the tribes. All of it.
Everyone talks about how much they enjoy playing magic, but the thing I really love to do more than anything is WATCH magic. I would much rather be watching a really excellent match than participating in it myself. New channelfireball videos have me clapping my hands with glee. On weekends I am often glued to SGCLive channel or pro tour live streaming. I have favourite hosts, players and enjoy watching almost every format. When I watch legacy though I have to look up nearly every card played - which is part of the fun.
I am hoping that LadyMTG will be a cool places to tell stories and hang out. One of the things that having Erinna alongside me these last few months is realising that girls experience things they love a little differently than guys. We often talk about the people as much as the strategy. The best part of GP Melbourne were the people I met, not the cards that I played or where I placed. I am so envious of all the Magic related crafts, fan fics, cosplay and such I see on tumblr. I look forward to geeking out and using what I learn to kick some butt.

Hey everyone! I’m Erinna/nova-bright (my tumblr is quite often nsfw, just a warning). I can’t find pics right now, apologies.

I’m a 25 year old Australian queer woman who likes equal parts gaming, folk-death metal and baking.

My history re mtg? I’ve been playing magic for a few months now, and live with two other mad keen magic players, who are responsible for getting me involved in the game!

I’ve recently started going to FNM with my housemates, and I have had a fantastic time, every time I’ve gone.

I’m currently enjoying the immense depth and breadth of my housemates’ card library. It makes being a newbie much easier when you have a) an amazing variety of cards, and b) someone to help you build decks!

My favourite card is Mayael the Anima, and I may possibly be addicted to playing Planeswalkers 2012 on the xbox.

In context of Lady MTG, I’d like to talk about what it’s like to start in magic, the fears and concerns new players might have, making friends, the culture of magic, and being a woman interacting with a largely male subculture.

Thanks, and nice to meet you all!

Hi All! I’m finally getting around to my introduction post here at LadyMTG.

I’m Jess! I’ve been playing Magic since Dissension during Ravnica. I played casually until early Zendikar when I started frequenting FNM. I work at a card shop and I am convinced I have the best job with the best people in the world.

I do a lot of alter work and I really enjoy it. I also do some digital art and one day I want to be good enough to do actual art for Wizards that’ll show up on real Magic: the Gathering cards. I’m working on becoming a Rules Adviser and eventually a judge. I absolutely love Mill, and my favorite card is definitely Archive Trap. I have two EDH decks and I’m working on a third, if you’d like, we should play sometime!

As far as my work here at Lady MTG, I’d like to host discussions about strategies and cards in order to show we’re more than just pretty faces!

If you’re interested, my personal Tumblr is Mill Matters, at: win-mill.tumblr.com
Stop by for some alters, fan art, stories and maybe a little humor. It’s great to be a part of Lady MTG, and I can’t wait to get started!

Hi, Breanne here. Sorry my pictures aren’t the best, and I don’t have any shots of me actually playing. You probably see me popping up occasionally on the MTG tags as Kojote, usually with some commentary on a card or a deck or my experiences as a female player.

I’ve only been playing since October when I finally convinced some friends with some teaching capability to show me how, but I’ve really gotten immersed in the game. There’s something about that fresh booster pack smell, sorting through a pile or cards, or the thrill when you unexpectedly pack a rare, sought-after card. Not to mention, it’s good for the mind, and it gives me yet another thing to do with my husband.

I primarily play green and white, and the color I play least is black. My favorite cards at the moment are Wolfir Silverheart, Hero of Bladehold, and Elesh Norn. Tribal and token creation are my favorite types of deck, and make up two of my three standard legal decks at the moment (Wolf/werewolf tribal in particular, and the third is a U/G dredge, in case you were wondering). I always have a pile of half-finished project decks, too.

Unfortunately, I don’t get to make FNM much because of my work schedule, but I have a lot of friends who play at least, and we’re all always trying to help each other improve while having fun.
